Service · Overgrown hedge reclamation

Years of neglect, undone properly.

We see a lot of these in Delce and Borstal - hedges bought with the house, never touched by the previous owner, now taller than the fence and gappy at the base. Reclamation is a specific job, different from a routine reduction.

Ask us: what's the actual difference between reduction and reclamation?

Reduction assumes a healthy, reasonably dense hedge that's simply grown too big - bring the height and width down and it looks right again. Reclamation assumes years of neglect: gaps at the base where light hasn't reached in years, dead wood built up inside the canopy, a lopsided shape from being cut against a fence on one side only. We assess for that specifically before quoting, because the plan for the two is genuinely different.

Pricing

Reclamation is priced per site visit after assessment rather than a fixed band, because the condition varies so much hedge to hedge. As a rough guide, a genuinely neglected 15-20 metre boundary hedge in Delce or Borstal typically runs £400 – £1,100 for the first stage, with a follow-up visit the following winter often needed to finish the job properly.

Ask us: will a gappy hedge base ever fill back in?

Sometimes, if there's still enough live wood and light gets in after we thin the top. Deciduous species respond best. If a hedge has been badly gappy for over five years or the base is mostly dead, we'll tell you honestly that infill planting alongside the existing hedge, rather than waiting on regrowth, is the more reliable fix.
